The Difference Between Poses & Prompts: Why I Use Both in My Sessions

Let’s talk about something you’ll experience during your shoot with me—poses vs. prompts. Spoiler alert: you’ll definitely get a mix of both!

So, what’s the difference?

Poses are more structured. I’ll guide you into a position—maybe facing a certain direction, resting your hand just so, or adjusting your gaze—and you’ll hold that pose. These are perfect for those beautiful, timeless shots where everyone’s smiling and looking at the camera. Think of it as your classic photo moment—clean, composed, and chef’s kiss gorgeous.

Prompts, on the other hand, are all about movement and interaction. Instead of standing still, I’ll have you walk together, whisper something silly, spin in a circle, bump hips, or give a dramatic hair toss. Prompts are designed to get you moving and feeling. That’s where the magic happens—real laughs, genuine emotion, and moments that feel like you.

Here’s the thing—I use both in every session. Whether we’re shooting couples, families, maternity, or seniors, I love a balance of posed and playful. The structure of a pose gives you a beautiful, polished image, while prompts bring your gallery to life with candid moments and big energy.

And don’t worry—you’ll never be left guessing what to do. I’ll show you exactly how to pose (yes, I’ll even demonstrate!) and guide you through every prompt. And if something feels off, I’ll adjust you with kindness and encouragement. My sessions are relaxed, fun, and full of movement—you’ll never feel stiff or awkward, promise.
